TEAM SA 2010 Announcement

New Year's Eve was not only the day that most of us celebrated the end of 2009 and looking forward to a glorious 2010, but was the day that the SAIHA released the team list for the SA Senior National Team that is going to be traveling to Armenia later this year.

Ronnie Wood has resumed the positon as head coach and is underway with an intense training program for this young national team. Players being selected from Cape Town, Durban and Gauteng will be groomed for this IIHF World Championship Tournament... read more

10-12 October 2009
WP SENIOR A-TEAM TAKES GOLD

The Senior Ice Hockey National Champs took place in Cape Town from 10 - 12 October 2009 and hosted at the beautiful Grand West Casino Complex's Ice Arena. The tournament consisted of 4 teams: Gauteng combined team, WP-A, WP-B and the Under 18 National Team.
Western Province's A-Team took Gold with an unbeaten reckord including Best overall Goaltender [Erik Rodenwoldt] & MVP of the tournament [Marc Giot].

2009 SA U/14 Championships –Results

Today the SA U/14 Championships got under way with Northern Gauteng taking on Western Province, this was a very tight game with the final score being NG 6 - WP 6.
The second game of the Tournament saw Western Province taking on Gauteng, once again this turned out to be a very close game with Western Province scoring the winning goal at 12:40 in the third period. The final score WP 6— Gauteng 5 .

Kwa Zulu Natal Take GOLD at the 2009 SA Women’s Championships, Durban.

The KZN women’s team won the 2009 SA Women’s Championships held in Durban the past weekend. This was KZN first tournament win in the past 15 years, a really fantastic effort by them. The team from Gauteng took the Silver and , Western Province the Bronze.

2009 SA Women’s Championships –Days Results

Today the SA Women’s Championships kicked off with the hosts taking on Western Province, the final score KZN 5 - WP 5. The second game of the Tournament saw Western Province taking on Gauteng, the final score Gauteng 6 - WP 6.

2009 SA U/14 and U/16 Championships

The 2009 SA U/14 and U/16 Championships will be hosted by Gauteng Ice Hockey Association from the 28th September to the 3rd October 2009. Teams from Gauteng, Western Province and Northern Gauteng will be participating in the U14 category and from Gauteng, Western Province, Northern Gauteng and Kwa Zulu Natal in the U/16 Category.

The 2009 SA Women’s Championships will be hosted by KZN Ice Hockey Association the up coming weekend, the 25th September to the 27th September 2009. Teams from Gauteng, Western Province and Kwa Zulu Natal will be participating.

2010 IIHF World Championships.

South African Senior men will attend the 2010 IIHF World Championship, div III Group B being held in Yerevan, Armenia from 12th April to 18th April 2010.

South African U/18 men will attend the 2010 IIHF World U/18 Championship, div III, Group B being held in Monterrey, Mexico from 14th March to 20th March 2010.

The 2009 African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey Postponed.

Today the 2009 African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey had to be postponed due to lack of response from the invited countries. We are looking to have the tournament in the 4th International break in February 2010. Dates to be confirmed.

South African Ice Hockey Association announced their National team Coaches for Inaugural African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey and the 2010 World Championships.

Today the South African Ice Hockey Association announced that Ronnie Wood would coach the South African National Senior team for the 2009 African Nations Cup of Ice Hockey and the 2010 IIHF World Championship Div III in April 2010 and Andre Marais would coach the South African National U/18 team for the 2010 IIHF World U/18 Championship, Div III in March 2010.

In the second game of the SA U/18 Championships Western Province beat the Northern Gauteng Warriors 14—0.

South Africa U/18 Championships, Cape Town—Western Province beat Gauteng

In the second game of the SA U/18 Championships Western Province beat the Southern Northern Gauteng Sabres 21—2.

South Africa U/18 Championships—Cape Town - Game 1

U18 South African Championships started this morning In Cape Town with the Southern Gauteng Sabres vs the Northern Gauteng Warriors.

A great game between the Warriors and Sabres with the Warriors coming out on top, 4 – 2. A very well played first period by the Warriors conceding no goals and scoring 4.

President of Gauteng Ice Hockey Resigns

It is with regret that we received the resignation of Mr. Flip Kotze as president of the Gauteng Ice Hockey Association.

SAIHA would like to thank him for all his hard work and dedication in promoting ice hockey in Gauteng over the past two years.

 
 

6 April 2009, Monday.
South Africa lose to Mexico 4-2 at 2009 IIHF World Championship Div. II Gr.B .

In South Africa’s first game of the 2009 IIHF World Championship Div. II Group B in Bulgaria Mexico beat them 4-2 in an exciting game.

At the end of the first period the Mexican team was leading 2-0. In the second period South Africa through Chris Engelbrecht grabbed a goal back and the second period ended with Mexico leading 2–1. In the 7th minute of the third period Damian Cardoso assisted by Andre Marais got South Africa’s second goal to tie the match, but with 8 minutes to go in the game and SA being short handed due to a tripping call on Burton Matthews, Mexico scored the go ahead goal. At 59:35 SA were again short handed because of a “checking from behind” call on Marc Giot, Mexico scored the final goal into an empty SA net. The final score SA—2 Mexico - 4.

South African player of the match was David Watson.

 

29 March 2009, Sunday.
The South African Mens team beat a SA Invitation team 6-1.

In an exciting game that was viewed by spectators in a packed Kempton Park Ice Arena, the South African Men’s team, that will be traveling to the 2009 IIHF World Championship Div. II Group B in Bulgaria from the 6th to the 12th of April 2009, played a South African Ice Hockey Association Invitation team and beat them 6-1. At the end of the first period the score was 1-1, but in the second period the South African teams superior fitness showed and they started to dominate the game and they never looked back.

SA player of the match was Andre Marais and the SA Invitation team’s player of the match was Jacques Booysen .

The South African Ice Hockey Association wishes the team well for the 2009 World Championships.

 

5 March 2009, Thursday.
South African U/18 team Wins their match 12 – 3 against Mongolia.

The South African U/18 team won their fourth and final match of the 2009 IIHF U/18 World Championships Div III, Group A against Mongolia.

Cyle Labuschagne scored 5 goals , Uthman Samaai scored 2 and Jarryd Goodwin, Warwick Du Preez, Jade Johnson and Chad Williams each scoring one goal.

With this win the SA U/18 team finish the 2009 IIHF U/18 World Championships Div III, Group A in Fourth Position. SA player of the match was Cyle Labuschagne.

Uthman Samaai was voted South African player of the Tournament .

The team will return home on Saturday 27 March 2009.

4 March 2009, Wednesday.
SA U/18 lose 3-8 to home team, Chinese Taipei.

SA player of the match was Brandon Kros.

2 March 2009, Monday.
SA U/18 lose 3-5 to New Zealand.

The SA u/18 team lost 5–3 to New Zealand in a very exciting game. At the end of the first period the score was 0-0. By the end of the 2nd period SA had moved ahead 2-1 but new Zealand Came back strongly in the 3rd period to win the game.
SA player of the match was Lloyd Schluter.

28 February 2009, Saturday.
South African U/18 team loses 16– 1 to Australia.

The South African U/18 team came up against a very strong Australian team in their first match of the 2009 IIHF U/18 World Championships Div III, Group A in Chinese Taipei, which they lost 16 –1. South Africa’s only goal was scored by Uthman Samaai assisted by Cyle Labuschagne. The South African team only managed to have 14 Shots on goal where as the Australians had 97 shots on goal. South Africa’s next match will be on 2nd March 2009 against New Zealand.

25 February 2009, Wednesday.
SA U/18 Team depart for Chinese Taipei.

Today the South African U/18 national team flew out of Johannesburg to participate at the 2009 IIHF U/18 World Championships Div III, Group A in Chinese Taipei, from the 27th February to the 8th March 2009.

The team was very up beat and looking forward to participating on the world stage. We wish them all the best for the championships.

SQUAD SELECTION - SA SENIOR TEAM

The SAIHA has cut the South African Ice Hockey squad for the 2009 IIHF World Championships Div II, Group B in Bulgaria from 32 players to 24 players.

The final 20 players and 2 goalkeepers who will be traveling to Bulgaria will be announced on the 13th of February 2009.

Inline Hockey Squad announced.

Krugersdorp inline Hockey team wins the round robin stage of the 2009 SA Inline Championships held at Wembely Stadium in Johannesburg.

The four teams that will go through to the semi finals to be held on Sunday 18th January 2009 are: Krugersdorp, Benoni, Randburg and Pretoria.
