THE SOUTH AFRICAN ICE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION "HALL OF FAME"
 

The South African Ice Hockey Association honors its member for outstanding service to the sport of ice hockey by inducting them to the “South African Ice Hockey Hall of Fame”.

 

There are three categories in which a member may be inducted, a player, a builder or an official.

 

Since its inception the South African Ice Hockey Association has honored the following for their contributions to South African Ice Hockey.

 

Player Category:
Edward Lawrence (Blackie/Ted) (1939 - )
Represented South Africa at the 1961 IIHF World Championships when South Africa was represented for the first time at an IIHF World Championship. Blackie was awarded the South African “State Presidents Sports Merit Award”. After completing his playing days he continued to coach many teams at club and international level right up until present.
Inducted in 2001
Alan Verwey (1961 - )
Represented South Africa since 1985 with distinction on many occasions at the IIHF World Championships and was awarded the South African “State Presidents Sports Merit Award” in 1982 and has moved on to coaching many teams at club and international level.
Inducted in 2001
Chad Lawrence (1971 - 2006 )
Represented South Africa in 1990 to 2001 and was assistant coach of team South Africa at the 2000 IIHF World Championship Pool D.

Builder Category:
Otto Hertz (1914 - )
Inducted for his years of service to South African ice hockey especially in the international arena.
Inducted in 2001
Nevis Swart

Was the first lady acting President of SAIHA and campaigned very strongly for women’s ice hockey.

Dave Rodger

Actively involved in ice hockey for many years at club and association level.
Inducted in 2001

Ashley Marsh (1957 - )
Has been very active is SA Ice hockey since 1976 as a player, coach and administrator and was elected Vice President of SAIHA 1994 and was very active in starting SAIHA junior program.

Officials Category:
Dave May ( 1961 - )
In 1992 became South Africa’s first IIHF licensed referee and has represented South Africa as a linesman and referee at various IIHF World Championships.
