The South African Ice Hockey Association has been a member of the IIHF (International Ice Hockey Federation) since 25 February 1937. At present, is governed by association president, Jerry Stevens, who is a local to Cape Town and apart of the Western Province Ice Hockey Association.

Listed in the statistics populated by the IIHF, South Africa has a total of 385 players, 133 of them are male, 52 are female and 200 juniors. We also host 10 referees & 4 ice rinks throughout the country. Our Men's national team are ranked 42nd & the ladies national team are 31st.

As the seasons around the country draw to a close, provinces host their annual prize-giving evenings and look back on the 2011 year.

There is alot that took place this past season with the feature of the year being the IIHF Mens Division 3 World Championships being held in Cape Town in April. An outstanding performance by our Men's team was noted all over the world by online viewers as the game of the tournament between RSA and Israel went down to the wire.

The general concensus was that South Africa definately did not look like a division 3 hockey team and can hold their heads high after their narrow overtime loss to the Israeli team. At present all teams are currently preparing for their respective tours this coming 2012 and we wish them the best of luck.
